The Events of CyclePalooza
Poker Ride
Explore the city, support local bike businesses, and test your luck on two wheels.
For the Poker Ride, we partner with 10 bike-friendly locations across the city (like The Bike Hub, BikeBike, and Ridley’s). Each location holds a playing card — and it’s up to your team to ride out and collect them.

For the Poker Ride, we partner with 10 bike-friendly locations across the city (like The Bike Hub, BikeBike, and Ridley’s). Each location holds a playing card — and it’s up to your team to ride out and collect them.
Here’s how it works:
- Ride to any 5 partner locations to collect 5 playing cards
- Those cards make up your poker hand
- Snap a photo of your hand and submit it for scoring
- The best poker hand wins the most points
Want an edge?
Ambitious teams can visit all 10 locations, giving them the chance to choose the best 5 cards from their full set.
The Poker Ride runs over the two weeks leading up to Cyclepalooza, giving teams flexibility to plan rides, explore the city, and stay engaged well before event day.
Flat Tire Challenge
Think fast, work together, and put your bike skills to the test.
The Flat Tire Challenge takes place at The Hub, where teams will race against the clock to repair a flat tire. This challenge brings all Cyclepalooza teams together in one place — and gives participants a great reason to stop by, hang out, and support a local bike hub.
Learn more about the Flat Tire Challenge
How it works:
- At least two team members must be present to compete
- Teams are timed while they properly repair a flat bike tire
- All tools and supplies are provided, with similar tire setups to keep things fair
- Times are recorded by Hub staff, and faster repairs earn more points
The Flat Tire Challenge runs during The Hub’s regular opening hours in the two weeks leading up to Cyclepalooza, making it easy for teams to drop in and take part.
Traffic Safety Trivia
Test your bike smarts and earn points for your team.
Traffic Safety Trivia takes place onsite at CycleFest on June 6, giving teams a chance to put their cycling knowledge to the test. From road rules and signage to everyday bike safety tips, this quick and interactive challenge is designed to be
fun, informative, and inclusive for riders of all experience levels.
Learn more about Traffic Safety Trivia
Teams will answer a series of bike and traffic safety questions, with points awarded based on how well you score. It’s a low-barrier way to jump in, learn something new, and boost your team’s total — no bike required.
Perfect for a breather between rides, Traffic Safety Trivia helps reinforce safe cycling habits while keeping the competition going.
Cargo Bike Relay
Balance, teamwork, and a little bit of controlled chaos.
The Cargo Bike Challenge takes place onsite at CycleFest, where teams will go head-to-head using cargo bikes to pack, load, and race through a short course. With one rider per team and teammates cheering (and strategizing) from the sidelines, this challenge is all about coordination and quick thinking.
Learn more about the Cargo Bike Relay
Teams will load their cargo bikes with a mix of everyday items you might actually haul on a cargo bike — think groceries, paint cans, lumber, luggage, and more! Once loaded, riders will navigate the course as quickly and safely as possible.
Points are awarded for:
- Packing the most cargo
- Completing the course in the fastest time
- It’s fast-paced, crowd-friendly, and guaranteed to be one of the most entertaining challenges of the day.
Pedal Power Tower
Generate power. Feel the burn. Claim the points.
The Pedal Power Challenge takes place on the CycleFest Mainstage, where teams go head-to-head to see who can generate power the fastest. Using the Pedal Power Tower (courtesy of the Arusha Centre), one rider from each team takes the bike and pedals hard to hit the target.

Riders are timed as they work to generate 300 watts of power, and the clock stops once the goal is reached.
Points are awarded to the top three fastest teams, making this a high-energy, crowd-pleasing showdown you won’t want to miss.
This challenge runs onsite at CycleFest and is designed to bring the hype — whether you’re riding or cheering from the crowd.
Slow Roll Challenge
The slowest ride wins.
The Slow Roll Challenge takes place onsite at CycleFest and flips racing on its head. Riders line up and roll onto a short course with one goal: go as slowly as possible without putting a foot down.
Learn more about the Slow Role Challenge
Balance, focus, and nerves of steel are key. The moment a foot touches the ground, that rider is eliminated. The last rider to cross the finish line takes the win — and the points for their team.
Simple rules, big laughs, and serious bragging rights.
